The mission of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer is to shine the light of the gospel upon our congregation, our community, and our world. To that end, we are a welcoming community that provides to all an opportunity to serve and to be served in the name of Jesus Christ.

Looking Further Ahead

Vestry nominations for the 2011-2014 term are now open.  There are nomination forms on the table in the narthex, or see one of the nominating committee members: Rob Ashby, Ginger Bolter or Peter Kingsford.  Nominations will close on Thursday, October 14.

There are sign-up lists on the bulletin board for the Habitat Interfaith Build workday (September 18) and the IHN/Family Promise week (September 19-26).  Please sign up to help as you are able.  You may also reply to this e-mail and we will be happy to write your name on the list(s).  There are plenty of openings on both lists.

And if you think September has been busy...October is going to be HUGE at the church, so mark your calendars now:

  • Noah's Park - Saturday, October 2

  • Blessing of the Animals - Sunday, October 3

  • Stewardship Dinner - Saturday, October 9

  • Garden Tour (Head Injury Foundation Benefit) - Saturday, October 15

  • Wine Tasting and Art Show - Saturday, October 23 (Deadline for tickets – October 9)

Also, please make note of an important date in November: our annual parish meeting will be held on Sunday, November 14 at 11:45 a.m.

Other Information

Ray+ will be attending clergy conference at Camp Beckwith beginning Sunday afternoon and returning Tuesday, September 14.  Please call Coleman Inge for pastoral emergencies (607-7975) and Ginger Bolter (661-9214) or Lella Lowe (455-5073) for all other issues.

There will be a reception honoring Susan Downing-White at Gallery 54 (54 Upham St., Mobile) on Sunday, September 12, from 1:00-3:00 p.m.  Her show is entitled “Weather Changes & Recent Events: New Gulf Coast Landscapes”.  Raffle tickets will go on sale soon for a portrait painted by Susan, with proceeds to benefit the ministries of Redeemer.

We are preparing to send out a bulk mailing to 2,500 households and could use some help stapling, folding, taping and labeling the mail.  If you are willing to take some of the mail home to work on, please reply to this e-mail and let us know.

Thanks to Thomas Archer for erecting the new deck for the garden terrace behind the parish house.  The new deck is featured in this week's banner photo.

Green Tip of the Week:

Pay as many of your bills online as you can. This helps with the amount of paper that is sent out and eventually just thrown away. Many of the bills can also be put on paperless billing where they will send you your bill through email, saving even more paper.

Please remember in your prayers this week:

Johnathan Poynor, Stephen Rollins, Sue Rollins, Joann Fassig, Gail Chryslee, Jane Roberts, Emily Midgette, Catherine Love, Richard Barnett, Ryan Kuykendall, Bob Kuykendall, Steve Donald, Vernon Stewart, Joel Harris McBeth & Family, Mary Olive Wood, Donna White, Cathy Mason, Dottie Barrow, Karen Kelly, Don Harris, Larry Hall & Family, Teresa Atkins, David Kingsford & Aden.
