Have you ever found a website you really wanted to remember? Maybe you saved it to your bookmarks (or favorites) in your browser. But, if you are like me, those bookmarks can get messy - or you can’t remember what you saved to your home computer, your laptop, or your work computer. Social bookmarking takes another approach to saving websites, using a website, instead of your browser, to keep track of them.
For a great explanation of how social bookmarking works, check out this video from Common Craft:
Discovery Exercises:
- Sign up for an account on Delicious, or another social bookmarking site you know about.
- Install the Delicious plug-in for your browser.
- Bookmark and tag a few sites.
- Explore Delicious by searching for items tagged with something you’re interested in. Did you find any cool sites this way?
- Post a reflection on your blog about your experiences.
Bonus Activities:
- Can you figure out how to import your browser’s bookmarks into Delicious?
- Try adding your Delicious bookmarks to the sidebar of your blog.
